About Laser Therapy in Hobart

Laser Therapy, or “photo biomodulation”, is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared) to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. Laser Therapy has been widely utilised in Europe by physical therapists, nurses and doctors as far back as the 1970’s. Now, after FDA clearance in 2002, Laser Therapy is being used extensively in the United States.

Laser therapy can be tailored to suit a wide range of health concerns, and treatment frequency depends on the type of condition being managed. Acute issues often benefit from daily sessions to support rapid healing, while chronic conditions usually respond best to two or three treatments each week to build progress over time. For long term or ongoing conditions, such as arthritis, one or two sessions a month is generally enough to maintain comfort and mobility.

The number of treatments needed is influenced by how long the condition has been present and how the body responds. Acute problems may show improvement within two to six sessions, while chronic concerns usually require six to twelve treatments, sometimes more. Long term conditions tend to rely on periodic care to help manage symptoms and keep the body functioning well.

Laser therapy can be used on its own or as part of a broader treatment plan. It is commonly combined with chiropractic care, massage, physiotherapy, electrotherapy and post surgery rehabilitation. This flexibility makes it a practical addition to many healthcare programs.

Laser therapy also plays a role at a cellular level by supporting the production of adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. ATP is a naturally occurring molecule found in all living cells, responsible for providing the energy needed for muscle contraction, nerve signalling and many other essential processes. By assisting ATP activity, laser therapy helps encourage efficient healing and improved tissue repair.

Common K-Laser Therapy questions

What’s different about the K-LASER vs. other LASER’s that are out there?

It’s the only LASER on the market with a four Wavelength/Triple Delivery Mode. The K-Laser was the first to employ three infrared wavelengths simultaneously of 800 nm, 905 nm, and 970 nm and combine them with a 660 nm visible beam. These Four Wavelengths are more efficient, healing the tissue while also aiding in pain relief. Combine this with Three Distinct Delivery Modes (Continuous Wave, Frequency Modulated, and Intense Super Pulse), and you have a therapeutic laser solution that offers as much variety as the conditions and patients you treat.

Has effectiveness been demonstrated scientifically?

Yes. There are thousands of published studies demonstrating the clinical effectiveness of Laser Therapy. Among these, there are more than one hundred rigorously controlled, scientific studies that document the effectiveness of laser for many clinical conditions.

What does treatment feel like and how long does it take?

There is nearly no sensation during treatment. Occasionally a mild warmth can be felt. Painful or inflamed areas can be briefly sensitive before pain reduction occurs. The duration of a treatment is related to the area and the condition. Usually it will take between 4-10minutes.

When should I expect to see results?

Most of the time improvement (pain reduction) is felt after the first treatment. Sometimes for Chronic conditions several treatments are necessary. Treatments are cumulative and results are often felt after 3-4 sessions.
