What causes back pain?

Back pain, which includes upper and lower back pain, is a common condition that can often be attributed to a range of lifestyle factors.

These factors can include:

  • working at a computer for long periods;
  • driving for considerable periods; as well as
  • bending, lifting and reaching aspart of your daily work routine.

All these activities contribute to our increasingly sedentary lifestyle...

Further, the increase in “Weekend-Warrior” gardening and or landscaping pursuits causes many people to experience the second, more common cause of back problems these days – injury from overload (doing more than you’re fit and able to).

Then there’s the injuries from mountain biking, stubby swinging, and rushed/stressed housework and the like that tend to aggravate pre-existing issues, but tend to feel like your back “just went out” for no reason.

What are the symptoms of back pain?

There are many different types of symptoms associated with back pain – which may be localised in a certain area like the lower back, or can be in the buttocks, groin or legs.

Just some of the symptoms of back pain and nerve interference include:

  • Tiredness
  • Memory trouble
  • Brain fog
  • Neck pain
  • Joint stiffness
  • Ear aches
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Poor sleep/restless sleep
  • Nose bleeds
  • Rotator cuff issues
  • Noise and smell sensitivity
  • Lowered resistance to colds and flu’s
  • Allergic reactions
  • Constipation
  • Headaches

If it’s controlled by the nerve system, then it’s likely able to be a symptom of a nerve system that is interfered with.

If your back problem causes pain, the type of pain can be:

  • Sharp;
  • Aching;
  • Dull;
  • Stiff;
  • Stabbing;
  • Shooting; or
  • Electrical.
